Looking For A Safe House – A Unique Chicago Dining Experience

This blog post is long overdue. Whenever people ask for a recommendation in Chicago, no matter if it’s a restaurant or something to do, I immediately tell them, “Go to the SafeHouse!”

Looking for a Safe House – A unique Chicago dining experience you must do when visiting the windy city!

SafeHouse is this fun bar and restaurant in downtown Chicago featuring a spy theme. Now, I know what you might be thinking, “Spy theme? Ugh, that is so lame!” Don’t mock it til you try it.

This isn’t just your typical restaurant or bar. You could spend hours in here, maybe because you are busy finding the fun hidden things to do, trying to complete their scavenger hunt, or just trying to find your way out. This place will not disappoint.

SafeHouse is a refuge for spies.

To enter, you’ll need a password. And don’t expect us to tell you! You need to experience it to it’s fullest potential, password not included.

When walking down Ontario St, you will find a red door. It might not look like anything fancy, but that’s the door where you will need to enter. It says SafeHouse outside of the building, but above the door it will say, “International Exports LTD.” Don’t worry, you’ve found the right place.

When entering, you will see a man behind a desk. If you have the password, he will let you right in. If you don’t have the password, then you have to prove that you are in fact one of their spies and not an intruder. After you pass the test, you will enter the restaurant which is in the basement of the building. The waitresses will seat you and give you the low down for what will happen next.

Pick your agent name and put on your name tags, because shits about to go down!

While you wait for your food, spend time walking around playing with the cool gadgets. Don’t forget to go to the bathroom to wash your hands, I found the women’s bathroom to be the funnest spot! This is a good time to follow the clues and search for the password.

And good luck trying to leave. I’ve been to this place twice and each time is different. I’ve always come out in a different spot and wondered how I got there. If you need help finding your way out, the staff will be willing to point you in the right direction.

When exiting you will go down through a corridor filled with laser beams, booby-traps and fake doors. This really was the best part about the whole experience.

The food and drinks may be overpriced, but if you compare it with the fun and entertainment you get while you are in there – it’s so worth it! SafeHouse will leave you with an experience you will NEVER forget.

Have you been to a restaurant that you found to be the funnest part of your trip? Comment below because we want to know!
