Route 66- The Great Blue Whale of Catoosa

In the plains of Oklahoma, there lives a whale- one of my favorite roadside attractions I’ve been to in the U.S. He once was part of a swimming park which closed in 1988 and now resides as a tourist attraction on Route 66. The Blue Whale was built by Hugh Davis in the early 1970’s as an anniversary gift to his wife, Zelta Davis. He originally planned for it to be a family swimming park, but he opened it to the public a few years later after he realized how much locals loved it.

The perfect pit stop when traveling on Route 66. On site, there is a small gift shop to buy some whale trinkets as well as a few food huts to grab a bite to eat. You may step into the whales mouth and walk to the end of it’s tail. There is also a second story if your daring enough to climb to get to it’s blow holes!
